    Nestlé coffee center breaks ground in Yunnan's Pu'er

    The construction of the large-scale project Nestlé Coffee Center officially starts in the Pu'er Industrial Park on Monday. The center will significantly enhance the ability to provide training and technical support to coffee farmers and coffee practitioners and further strengthen and promote the development of Pu'er coffee industry. It is expected to be put into operation in the 2015-2016 coffee purchase season.

    The Nestlé Coffee Center will consist of two parts. One part will include the Nestlé Coffee Farming Institute and Green Coffee Quality laboratory, which provides training to coffee farmers, agronomists and coffee professionals and is designed to be the largest training base of its kind in China; the other will be a modern storage facility.

    With the rise of coffee beans production in Pu'er, the center will provide much-needed infrastructure required by the further purchase of coffee beans, and will establish quality local procurement and testing benchmarks based on international standards.

    Nestlé as one of the first multinational companies to invest in the agricultural sector in the southwest of China, has been upholding the business philosophy of "Creating Shared Value" and has always been committed to promoting the industrialization of coffee industry, in cooperation with the relevant central and local departments.

    Thanks to the joint efforts from multiple parts, the coffee industry and the economic development in Yunnan had experienced tremendous changes, and gradually developed into a thriving, profitable, high quality Arabica coffee growing region that attracts world's attention.

    Nestlé's coffee development programs in the province have been widely recognized by the public, and it received the United Nations "2012 World Business and Development Award," and was named the "2012 Global Compact China Best Practices" by the United Nations in the same year. Since the start of this purchasing season, allcoffee beans purchased by Nestlé are expected to pass 4C certification and laya solid foundation for the long-term sustainable development of Pu'er coffee.
